Le Castellet Round

Circuit Paul Ricard | 2 May 2026

The second round of the Michelin Le Mans Cup produced a mixed but still useful Aston Martin result at Circuit Paul Ricard. Overall victory went to the #50 23Events Racing Ligier JS P325-Toyota, while Kessel Racing won GT3 with its #17 Ferrari. For Aston Martin, Racing Spirit of Léman secured another GT3 podium with the #10 Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, Ecurie Ecosse Blackthorn scored its first points of the season, and Code Racing Development again showed pace before failing to reach the finish.

Aston Martin left Le Castellet with useful points rather than a repeat of Barcelona’s GT3 win. Racing Spirit of Léman kept the #10 Vantage at the top of the GT3 standings, Blackthorn got its Michelin Le Mans Cup campaign properly underway, and Code Racing Development again showed speed without the race result to match.

The headline position remains positive for Aston Martin: Racing Spirit of Léman leads both the GT3 teams’ and drivers’ standings after two rounds. Blackthorn has now opened its points account after the frustration of Barcelona, while Code Racing Development’s two pole-position bonus points reflect speed that has not yet turned into a race finish.

Round 02 - France Round 2026

The second round of the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup took place at Circuit Paul Ricard, and while the overall victory went to LMP3, the Aston Martin interest was concentrated in a lively and slightly frustrating GT3 contest. Overall honours went to the #50 23 Events Racing Ligier JS P325-Toyota of Giovanni Maschio and Colin Queen, with the #85 R-ace GP Duqueine second and the #19 Brutal Fish by Campos Ligier third. In GT3, Kessel Racing’s #17 Ferrari won the class, ahead of the #51 AF Corse Ferrari and the #10 Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo.

For Aston Martin, the strongest result again came from Racing Spirit of Léman. Philipp Sager and Valentin Hasse Clot finished third in GT3 in the #10 Aston Martin, 19.574 seconds behind the class-winning Ferrari and just 0.700 seconds behind the second-placed AF Corse Ferrari. The #10 car also carried a 10-second time penalty after the race, but the podium result was secure, and Hasse Clot recorded the fastest GT3 race lap with a 2:03.207. That combination of speed and points mattered because it kept Racing Spirit of Léman at the top of the GT3 teams’ standings after two rounds.

Code Racing Development had looked as though it might deliver the Aston Martin headline result. Sebastian Moreno and Ethan Ischer put the #11 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo on GT3 pole, with Moreno’s qualifying lap of 2:04.744 placing the car 0.738 seconds clear of the #51 AF Corse Ferrari. In the race, Moreno led GT3 and began to pull away from the pack before the pit-stop phase. But soon after the handover to Ischer, the official race report described the #11 as suffering what appeared to be a right-rear suspension failure. The car was forced back to the pits and was listed as not classified after completing 29 laps.

Ecurie Ecosse Blackthorn also had a much more constructive weekend than it had endured at Barcelona. After its opening round was lost before the race due to Claude Bovet’s Bronze Test accident, the #91 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo reached the finish at Le Castellet. Bovet and Tom Canning qualified ninth in GT3 and finished sixth in class, one lap down, also carrying a 10-second post-race time penalty. It was not a podium result, but it was Blackthorn’s first Michelin Le Mans Cup race finish and first points of the season, lifting the #91 crew into the GT3 standings.

The wider GT3 picture was therefore mixed for Aston Martin. Racing Spirit of Léman did exactly what championship campaigns require: after winning at Barcelona, it banked another podium at Paul Ricard and left the second round still leading the GT3 teams’ table on 40 points. Code Racing Development showed strong pace for the second round in a row, taking GT3 pole and leading the class, but once again came away without the race result its speed suggested was possible. Blackthorn, meanwhile, moved from a non-start in Spain to a proper points finish in France, which gives its Le Mans Cup campaign something firmer to build on.

From a Fuel the Passion perspective, Le Castellet was not as simple or as triumphant as Barcelona, but it was still an important Aston Martin weekend. The Vantage AMR GT3 Evo showed pace in qualifying, pace in the race, and championship resilience through Racing Spirit of Léman’s podium. It also showed the other side of customer GT racing: Code Racing’s missed opportunity and Blackthorn’s steady rebuild after a difficult start. The result leaves Aston Martin still strongly placed in GT3, but with clear unfinished business as the Michelin Le Mans Cup moves on to Road To Le Mans in June.

FTP Summary Line

Aston Martin left Le Castellet still leading the Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 standings, thanks to Racing Spirit of Léman’s third-place finish with the #10 Vantage AMR GT3 Evo. Code Racing Development again showed real speed by taking GT3 pole and leading the class before an apparent suspension failure ended its race, while Blackthorn’s #91 Aston Martin reached the finish in sixth to score its first points of the season.

Round 01 - Barcelona Round 2026

The 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup season opened at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with a strong Aston Martin storyline in GT3. Overall victory went to the #85 R-ace GP Duqueine D09-Toyota of Danial Frost and Enzo Peugeot, who finished ahead of the #50 23Events Racing Ligier JS P325-Toyota, with the sister #86 R-ace GP Duqueine completing the overall podium. For R-ace GP, it was maximum points in the opening round.

For Aston Martin, the headline was in GT3. Philipp Sager and Valentin Hasse Clot won the class in the #10 Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, finishing a lap clear of the nearest GT3 rival. The result stood despite a 10-second post-race penalty for the #10 car, underlining a strong and composed start to the season for Racing Spirit of Léman.

The GT3 race had already begun with Aston Martin showing pace. Code Racing Development’s #11 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo took GT3 pole through Sebastian Moreno, with the official qualifying classification showing Moreno fastest in GT3 by more than a second. In the race itself, however, the #11 car did not convert that pole into a result and was listed among the non-classified runners.

There was also disappointment for Ecurie Ecosse Blackthorn before the race had even begun. The team’s #91 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, entered for Claude Bovet and Tom Canning, was withdrawn from the Barcelona opener after an accident for Bovet during the Bronze Driver Collective Test. DailySportsCar reported the withdrawal before the race, while the official Michelin Le Mans Cup timing documents confirm the #91 Blackthorn Aston Martin and its Bronze Test participation.

The class fight itself was not straightforward. The official race report described a disrupted opening phase, with Safety Car and Full Course Yellow interruptions shaping the rhythm of the race. After the pit stops, the GT3 contest developed around the #17 Kessel Racing Ferrari, the #10 Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin and the #54 Dinamic GT Porsche. Hasse Clot eventually moved the Aston Martin past the Ferrari into Turn 1 and built enough of a margin to secure the class victory, even after the penalty had been applied.

From a Fuel the Passion perspective, Barcelona was a weekend that showed both sides of Aston Martin’s customer-racing story. Racing Spirit of Léman delivered the result that mattered most, taking the opening GT3 win and giving the Vantage AMR GT3 Evo an immediate championship foothold. Code Racing Development had already shown the car’s single-lap pace with GT3 pole, but Blackthorn’s withdrawal after Claude Bovet’s Bronze Test accident was a reminder that GT racing weekends can turn sharply before the race even begins. It was therefore a strong Aston Martin weekend overall, but not a simple one.

FTP Summary Line

Aston Martin’s Michelin Le Mans Cup season began with a GT3 victory in Spain, as Philipp Sager and Valentin Hasse Clot delivered the class win for Racing Spirit of Léman in the #10 Vantage AMR GT3 Evo. Code Racing Development had underlined the car’s pace with GT3 pole, but Blackthorn’s #91 Aston Martin was withdrawn before the race after Claude Bovet’s Bronze Driver Collective Test accident, making Barcelona a weekend of both success and setback for Aston Martin’s GT3 presence.
