FTP Pit Stop Notes: Valkyrie Takes First IMSA Top Five at Road America

Aston Martin delivered its strongest IMSA performance of the season during the six-hour Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix at Road America.
Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis brought the #23 Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyrie across the line in an apparent second place after a dramatic conclusion to the race. A 44-second post-race penalty for contact with the #93 Acura subsequently dropped the car to fifth overall, but the result still represents the Valkyrie’s first IMSA top-five finish.
There was also another podium for the Vantage GT3 Evo. Marius Fossard, Valentin Hasse-Clot and Trenton Estep finished third in Grand Touring Daytona with Car Blanche’s #068 Aston Martin, securing the team’s second podium from its two appearances in the category.
Heart of Racing’s #27 Vantage led GTD during the race and collected maximum Michelin Endurance Cup points at halfway. However, a late unsafe re-entry penalty dropped the car to 15th in class and reduced Dudu Barrichello’s championship advantage from 92 points to just 24.
Road America therefore provided important evidence of progress for the Valkyrie and another impressive result for Car Blanche, although penalties prevented Aston Martin from converting its overall pace into an even stronger weekend.

FTP Pit Stop Notes: Aston Martin Returns to the Sprint Cup Podium at Magny-Cours

Nicki Thiim and Kobe Pauwels delivered an excellent result for Aston Martin in Saturday evening’s opening GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup race at Magny-Cours, bringing the #7 Comtoyou Racing Vantage GT3 home third overall.
Pauwels moved the Aston Martin into sixth during the opening stint before the pit-stop sequence promoted the car into podium contention. Thiim took over for the second half of the race and maintained third to the chequered flag, finishing behind the winning Mercedes-AMG of Jules Gounon and Daniel Juncadella and the second-placed AF Corse Ferrari.
The result was Comtoyou Racing’s first Sprint Cup podium and Aston Martin’s first in the championship for seven years. Thiim also recorded the fastest lap of the race, providing further evidence that the Vantage possessed genuine front-running pace at Magny-Cours.
It was a particularly welcome response following Thiim’s difficult DTM weekend at Oschersleben. Aston Martin may not have returned to the top step just yet, but it’s very clearly back in the contest.

FTP Pit Stop Notes: Hungary Offers the First Sign of AMR26 Progress

Aston Martin delivered its most encouraging Formula One performance of the season in Hungary, with Lance Stroll recovering from 20th on the grid to finish 13th, directly ahead of Fernando Alonso in 14th.
There were still no points, but the upgraded AMR26 was able to compete credibly in the midfield after the deeply difficult weekends at Silverstone and Spa. Hungary was only the first stage of Aston Martin’s planned development programme, with further car updates and Honda’s new-specification power unit expected when Formula One returns at Zandvoort after the summer break.
